Seven Consecutive Years of Double-Digit Growth

Now approaching its 12th anniversary, AWE continues to achieve remarkable business growth. Trusted by numerous event organisers around the world, AWE features an action-packed event programme year after year, recording a double-digit percentage increase annually for seven consecutive years. By successfully introducing new shows and continually growing the scale of recurrent ones, AWE has achieved 66 full-house, full-capacity days, and welcomed over 300 mega events, of which 43 had more than 8,000 participants each. This exceptional business growth is also reflected in visitor numbers, with the venue now receiving more than four million visitors every year.

AWE’s spectacular line-up of EXPOtainment events not only reinforces its brand and reputation worldwide, it also attracts millions of high-end business travellers and further strengthens Hong Kong’s status as Asia’s capital city for MICE events, all of which directly benefits Hong Kong’s tourism, hotel, retail, logistics and related industries.

The Venue of Choice for
World-Class Innovation

16-18 May 2017

Held from 16-18 May, Critical Communications World is the world’s leading and most influential congress and exhibition dedicated to connecting critical communications professionals. This year’s 19th annual event will feature three days of thought-provoking discussion, debate and networking. Using the theme of network optimisation and transition, the event will bring together the biggest-ever variety of delegates to share their experiences using TETRA and other standard PMR networks, while also providing a valuable platform for delegates seeking broadband solutions.

The event will provide free content for visitors on the show floor, featuring two high-level seminar programmes, and zones dedicated to both Future Technologies and Data Apps & Control Rooms. As a truly global event, it not only brings together thought leaders from across Asia, but also from the Middle East, Europe, Africa and the Americas, as well as giving all delegates the unique opportunity to peruse an extensive exhibition of the latest critical communications equipment and applications from around the world.

Longines Masters of Hong Kong
10-12 February 2017

Winner of the Gold Award for ‘Best Live Experience at a Professional Sporting Event’ at the Sports Industry Awards Asia (SPIA) 2016, the Longines Masters of Hong Kong is now an integral part of the region's social and cultural calendar, on a par with the renowned Rugby 7 and Art Basel held annually in Hong Kong.

AsiaWorld-Expo is the venue of the final stop and only Asian leg of this Grand Slam of Indoor Show Jumping, following stops in Los Angeles and Paris.

During this year’s three-day event, visitors experienced exhilarating and world-class show jumping competitions while also enjoying various social events such as an art exhibition, wine tasting, meet-and-greet with top riders, and live music performances—a true feast for the senses combining art, food, culture and entertainment! New highlights at this year’s competition included the AWE Trophy Award, which honoured the event’s top rider, and a sensational live concert by Alice on the Roof that made this prestigious event even more spectacular than ever before.

AWE’s experienced F&B team again partnered with a Michelin-starred Chef to serve the finest gastronomy to diners at the Masters Club. Indeed, the AWE team continues to hold the record for serving a Michelin-starred dining experience to the largest number of guests in an EXPOtainment venue.

Thanks to its column-free and seamlessly combinable design, AWE successfully integrated horse stables, competition arena, art exhibition, chill-out lounge and fine-dining zones all under-one-roof, creating an unparalleled setting for a truly exceptional world-class event.

Hong Kong’s Biggest-ever 360-table Banquet Sets a New Record

Event: PCCW-HKT Annual Dinner 2017
Date: 10 March 2017
Format: An exclusive pre-function area for over 4,000 guests, and a gala dinner with over 360 tables

AWE’s star chefs each have over 20 years of culinary experience spanning a broad variety of five-star and high-profile establishments, supported by a catering service team led by a Merited Maitre Hotelier certified by Chaine des Rotisseurs. This exceptional F&B expertise is further complemented by Hong Kong’s largest indoor column-free banqueting hall, which covers an immense 8,200 sqm.

On 10 March 2017, PCCW-HKT, the largest telecommunication company in Hong Kong, became one of many local conglomerates who have moved their annual dinners to AWE in order to accommodate their growth. The PCCW-HKT dinner featured over 360 tables in a column-free setting, creating a stunning experience that can only be found at AWE. The unrivalled scale of the event was not only a testament to the venue’s unique design, but also the seamless collaboration and impeccable management skills of the more than 800 staff who supported the event.

In addition to superb food and excellent service, AWE offered additional advantages: PCCW-HKT has over 50 retail outlets, with thousands of staff working across the territory, so it was vital to find a venue that offered convenient access for everyone. AWE is unique in offering its own in-venue MTR station for a well-connected and traffic-free transportation experience, as well as easy access to a wide range of other transportation options. To encourage company-wide staff engagement, AWE also reserved an exclusive pre-function area, which allowed different arms of the company, such as 1010, The Club, nowTV and Tap & Go, to set-up their own booths and games to promote their innovative new products and service offerings to cross-channel members, thus adding even more fun to the event.

The Power of Collaboration Sets a New Guinness World Record

Event: The Church of God Gathering
A recurrent conference event now in its 7th edition, with assembled community members setting a new Guinness World Record in a message of community love
Date: 1 January 2017
Visitors: 8,000 delegates

The Church of God Gathering has been a recurrent conference event at AWE since 2010. This year’s event welcomed 8,000 delegates, which is an increase of more than 50% compared to last year.

To promote a harmonious community, 6,000 participants from a wide range of backgrounds, including Taiwan, Singapore, Indonesia, The Philippines, Nepal, Canada, America, UK, New Zealand and many other countries, joined together to set a new Guinness World Record. Participants of all ages, from primary and secondary students to the elderly, together used ukuleles to play the famous song “Home Sweet Home” for six minutes. The event was certified a new Guinness World Record, and successfully delivered the message of family love and community integration through cross-generation cooperation.

To support the event organiser in its attempt to achieve this record-breaking event, AWE offered its full support regarding media liaison, even enabling the performance to be recapped on a primetime TVB news report. This valuable media support helped the organiser to share its event message while also demonstrating the venue’s flexibility in accommodating conferences of a mammoth scale.
Commercial Radio Interview

AWE’s CEO, Allen Ha, detailed the establishment of the Aero-Bridgehead Economy Employers Network. While sharing details of the successful job fair held in mid-March, Mr Ha also introduced the launch of Hong Kong’s first e-Lantau Pass, which is designed to offer local workers special privileges on transportation, catering and entertainment. He explained that these are just two examples of how the Network is supporting Lantau’s development as a career hub and promoting the upward mobility of local youths by preparing them for the new job opportunities created by the rapid growth of high-value-added industries on Lantau

Sing Tao Daily Interview

In connection with the future development of the Airport North Commercial District (NCD) and the bridgehead economy that will be created by the soon-to-be-completed Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB), it is inevitable that AWE will enjoy an even larger MICE catchment area and attract even more International events in the years ahead. In this interview, AWE’s CEO, Allen Ha, explained how full-house days at AWE have increased eight-fold in the last five years, so that some events inevitably need to be turned away due to space constraints. While the relevant government authority is reviewing the expansion of Hong Kong’s convention and exhibition industry, some 570,000 square feet of ready-to-use land directly adjacent to AWE is already available. Located far from residential areas, this land resolves all concerns regarding adverse traffic impacts on the community.

Exclusive Opportunities and Privileges at Lantau’s 2nd Career Expo
To capitalise on opportunities arising from the multiple large-scale infrastructure and development projects scheduled for completion on North Lantau in the years ahead, the Aero-Bridgehead Economy Employers Network (The Network) was established in 2016 to promote the development of high-value-added industries in Lantau’s aero-bridgehead economy. As a Steering Member of this new Network, AWE is collaborating with other Lantau-based employers to attract new talents with upwardly mobile career paths, and promote Lantau as a great place to work. In addition to building capacity by nurturing local talent, one of The Network’s key strategic projects is the hosting of a regional-based recruitment job fair to create a dynamic career hub that meets the increasing demands for labour that are expected in future.

Echoing the success of its last career expo conducted in May last year, The Network’s 2nd Career Expo of the Aero-Bridgehead Economy Zone was held on 14 to 17 March 2017, with the programme extended to four days to offer over 5,500 job opportunities in aviation, high-end logistics, MICE, tourism and more. Mr Stephen Sui, Secretary of Labour and Welfare Bureau, officiated at the Opening Ceremony alongside representatives from the Aero-Bridgehead Economy Employers Network.

In collaboration with Tap & Go, a mobile payment service operated by HKT Payment Limited which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of HKT, the 2nd Career Expo also announced the launch of the new e-Lantau Pass. Hong Kong’s first regional employee benefit initiative, the e-Lantau Pass will be integrated into the Tap & Go mobile wallet, enabling all staff of The Network employers—and even the family members of staff—to enjoy exclusive discounts on hotels, dining, transport and entertainment. The launch of this new Pass is yet further proof that Lantau is a fun and rewarding place for career development!
