AsiaWorld-Expo Extends the Value of Events with Four Key Sustainability Initiatives |

As the event economy continues to grow, organisers are increasingly expected to deliver not only impactful experiences, but also responsible outcomes. AsiaWorld-Expo is advancing this agenda with a holistic sustainability approach that transforms how event resources are managed, earning recognition as the first venue in Asia-Pacific to receive the A Greener Future (AGF) Certificate.
Working closely with organisers of major public events such as ComplexCon Hong Kong, the Children’s Book Fair and Super Parents & Kids Expo, and Con-Con Hong Kong, AWE has introduced four key sustainability initiatives: Source Separation, Food Waste Recycling, Public Education, and Venue-led Management.
At the operational level, source separation is carried out at disposal points, with on-site staff guiding visitors to sort waste properly. The collected materials are then handled by the AWE team. Tableware is cleaned and recycled based on its material, while Food scraps are sent to O·PARK1, where to be converted into renewable energy and compost, turning event leftovers into valuable resources rather than waste.
Beyond operations, AWE supports organisers in engaging visitors through interactive and educational initiatives, particularly at family-focused events. AWE Bear plays a key role on-site, engaging children and families to help them identify and sort recyclable materials, turning sustainability into an accessible and memorable experience.
AWE also adopts a venue-led management approach, streamlining recycling across the entire event lifecycle. From early planning to post-event processing, organisers benefit from clear guidelines, centralised collection, and improved recycling efficiency, reducing the workload for exhibitors.
These initiatives demonstrate how sustainability can be seamlessly integrated into event delivery. By collaborating with organisers and partners, AWE is redefining best practices, ensuring events not only drive attendance and business outcomes, but also create lasting environmental value. |
