Ideal location, ideal venue

Hong Kong welcomed an unprecedented gathering of the global leading aviation players in September for the world's largest civil aviation event, Asian Aerospace International Expo and Congress 2007. Befitting its new location, the Asia Pacific led by China was particularly well represented among the 500 exhibiting companies (including over 130 airlines) and 11,000 trade visitors from 69 countries.

The event was launched by Hong Kong's Financial Secretary, John Tsang, who later toured the event which spanned AsiaWorld-Expo's four column-free halls.

The event was a first for Hong Kong, after 25 years in Singapore. "The move to Hong Kong was in response to customers' needs. With China's aviation industry growing so strongly, we felt a closer location was the best option.," explained Paul Beh, President Asia Pacific of the event organiser, Reed Exhibitions & Aerospace Aviation Group.

The availability of AsiaWorld-Expo also added to the "package" offered by Hong Kong, said Mr Beh. "If Hong Kong had not had AsiaWorld-Expo, we would have found it difficult to move here. In terms of hardware, it's very well designed. It offers a big space with good circulation and modern technology. In terms of software, the people have been very professional, efficient and responsive to our needs."

Whole industry under one roof

Adding to the event's B2B appeal, three complimentary events were held concurrently, covering airlines, aircraft interiors, air freight, training and simulation, maintenance, repair and overhaul.

AsiaWorld-Expo's location within the Hong Kong International Airport complex also allowed several thousand visitors to view larger exhibits at the Hong Kong Business Aviation Centre. This included private corporate jets and the world's largest passenger aircraft, the Airbus A380, which, earlier in the week, attracted large crowds with a low level fly-past along Hong Kong's famous Victoria Harbour.

Strong support for new city and venue

Exhibitors and visitors were quick to praise both the move to Hong Kong and the facilities and format of the event, according to Reed Exhibitions Aerospace Aviation Group, Senior Vice President, Clive Richardson. "Overwhelmingly the message I have received is that this has been a productive platform with a convivial atmosphere."

Boeing's Executive Vice President, Sales Commercial Airplanes, Larry S. Dickenson agreed. "We've been very pleasantly surprised by the overall outcome of the show. The facility infrastructure is excellent, and the critical mass of visitors is right. This has allowed us to engage with business contacts in a very comfortable and productive manner."

Air China Technics' Marketing and Sales Manager, Song Yanxia, echoed the sentiment saying, "I was pleased with the professional and international business environment in the exhibition hall, which proved to be an excellent place to meet existing and new contacts in a very convenient location."

The combined Expo and Congress allowed the 500 exhibiting companies and 11,000 visitors to explore B2B opportunities as well as hearing from the latest industry experts.
AsiaWorld-Expo's position within the Hong Kong International Airport complex meant that facilities, such as the Hong Kong Business Aviation Centre, were available for large scale outdoor exhibits, including a number of private jets and an Airbus A380.

Within the same week in mid-August, Gwen Stefani and Avril Lavigne both played at AsiaWorld-Arena attracting enthusiastic fans to the 13,500-capacity venue. A combined seated and standing set-up had fans on their feet throughout the high-energy performances. Some fans came even from Southern China who travelled conveniently by cross-border buses.

AsiaWorld-Arena is Hong Kong's largest indoor entertainment venue and boasts state-of-the art acoustic and technical support, essential to the multi-media entertainment shows that both acts
required.

Since opening in 2005, the venue has attracted some of the world's leading names in musical entertainment including Black Eyed Peas, Coldplay, Eric Clapton, IL DIVO, John Legend, Muse,
Oasis and Westlife, etc .

Gwen Stafani dazzled in Hong Kong as part of her 2007 world tour.
The young Canadian rock star had the 11,000-strong crowd singing and dancing along to her latest albums.
