Your Dependable Partner for Any Challenge
Experience and Expertise in Action

This has been a tumultuous and challenging year for communities around the world. In recognition of its exceptional commitment to hygiene and COVID-19 prevention, AWE was appointed as one of Hong Kong’s specimen collection centres in March 2020, and later was adapted as a temporary quarantine facility for elderly residents of residential care homes. Building on that experience, AWE became a temporary community treatment facility from 1 August 2020.

As a caring company that has always believed in supporting our local community, AWE was honoured that it could be of service at such a critical time.

This project was a unique experience for AWE, not only because of the nature of the facility, but also because we served as the project manager. In collaboration with the respective authorities, contractors and concerned parties, we played a pivotal role in designing the layout of the facility, material sourcing, and production set-up, all of which was completed in an extremely short lead time.

After swiftly and smoothly completing this first-of-its-kind facility, the team’s project management capabilities faced an even greater challenge: operating the facility and keeping all residents safe and comfortable around the clock. Thanks to the team’s resourcefulness and innovative thinking, AWE successfully achieved yet more firsts such as the creation of mobile handwashing stations and shower cubicles. As always, AWE remained committed to the user experience, which is why the whole team went the extra mile to create a comfortable environment for residents. These efforts included a varied menu of dining, high-speed WiFi, individual living spaces with electric sockets and storage, a relaxing day-night lighting cycle, and much more.

This unique conversion is yet further proof that AWE and its team of talented staff can meet the needs of even the most demanding events. Through flexibility, versatility, teamwork and a caring spirit, we can rise to any challenge!

“AWE was an attentive and resourceful partner. To uphold the highest standards of infection control, AWE took extra care of the operational details such as implementing stringent procedures for handling medical residuals, and the cleaning and disinfection process within and outside the halls. The whole team worked to accommodate the 24-hour operations, providing meals from breakfast to supper for duty staff and patients. The quarantine centre proved the efficiency and professionalism of the AWEsome team. We were able to truly rely on them, supported by their boundless cooperation with all relevant departments.”
Pang Kit-ling, Assistant Director (Family and Child Welfare), Social Welfare Department

“Converting an exhibition venue into a community treatment facility is not an easy task. On the one hand, we have a high standard of infection control which requires a lot of modifications. On the other hand, all set-ups must be completed in an extremely short timeframe. AWE team’s support in facility conversion, including the additional installation of showering facilities, or even the alteration of in-hall ventilation are well-managed to ensure the facility could be commenced as scheduled. After the facility was put into operation, AWE also offered a lot of thoughtful arrangements for both patients and our medical team, including meal arrangements, resting facilities for medical staff and even the day-night lighting cycle to create a relax and comfortable environment, taking care of the patients physically and mentally. We very much appreciate the professionalism of AWE team. The epidemic situation remains variable, the community treatment facility at AWE and other alike plays a vital role in combating the virus. Again, I would like to thank the whole AWE team for their continuous support in joining us in the battle against the epidemic.”
Dr. Frank Chan, Chief Manager (Integrated Care Programs), Hospital Authority
“2020 has been a challenging year, but we have been living up to our corporate social responsibilities by providing sites for the government’s quarantine centre and assisting in site conversion during the past few months. Although we faced many obstacles and technical challenges during the process, we all worked towards one goal. Stretching with our full strength, we have risen to every challenge and tackled the immense difficulties with full confidence, always aiming to meet the tight project deadline.”
Dorothy Tan, Chief Operating Officer, AsiaWorld-Expo

“Based on the solid experiences gained from past successful events, AWE was more than a venue provider in this instance, we also took up a key role in mastering project coordination, so every challenge was a testament to our professionalism. To prepare for the return of exciting MICE and concert events, we have now introduced advanced sanitising and preventive measures, and have embarked on a series of facility upgrades. We are ready and looking forward to seeing an exciting line-up of events at AWE!”
Enid Low, Chief Strategy Officer, AsiaWorld-Expo

Rigorous Protocols for Your Total Peace of Mind

AWE has always adhered to the highest standards of hygiene and venue maintenance. Now, we have also introduced a series of sophisticated new measures for individuals, air purification, and facilitiy cleansing: CLeanTech is the world’s first three-in-one disinfection installation sanitising visitors’ outfits and carry-on items in just around 12 seconds; BioEm Air known for its botanical air sanitising and purifying technology is for application in crowded environments; and Aegis Intelligence features a patented photocatalysis formula that sets an exceptional new standard for facility hygiene, especially the frequently touched areas. AsiaWorld-Expo stays one step ahead to safeguard the health of each user by 3-dimensional approach targeting “individuals”, “environment” and “facilities” to meet different preventive needs.

What’s more, we have also developed new protocols for the transitional periods between different events. An Intelligent Sterilisation Robot (ISR) is now deployed at AWE to ensure comprehensive disinfection. This cutting-edge robot is equipped with multiple disinfection modes, including an ultraviolet light steriliser, 360-degree disinfectant spray-heads and air filtration (HEPA), which can sterilise up to 99.99% of all bacteria. Its 360-degree autonomous navigation technology helps to reach blind spots and ensure complete coverage. The ISR is used widely to patrol and sterilise the halls at AWE, especially during move-in and move-out periods, ensuring that the air and all surfaces are fully sanitised.

Financial Aid from the HKSAR Government

To further support the exhibition and convention industry, the HKSAR Government now offers all organisers of exhibitions, and international conventions (convention with over 400 participants and at least 50% of whom must come from outside Hong Kong) a 100% venue rental subsidy with funding worth more than HK$1 billion (US$131 million) for events to be held at AWE in the coming year (from now till 31 December 2021) .

Organisers with postponed events can benefit from this new subsidy by confirming their revised schedule within the promotional period, while organisers of new events can use it to plan inaugural shows at AWE. To further support the MICE industry, AsiaWorld-Expo would offer extra incentive or sponsorship for new shows.

Facility Upgrades in the Pipeline

Here at AWE, we’re getting ready for the bounce back of the global MICE industry and hope to start a new chapter for all MICE practitioners. To bring visitors an upgraded experience, a newly decorated Chinese fine dining restaurant, NUVA, has been introduced, and a modern Western restaurant, Arena Kitchen, was just unveiled in October.

In addition to enhancing our catering outlets, a number of other projects are also in progress. We are investing in new technologies and comprehensive facility upgrades to make sure you can enjoy an even finer experience at AWE, always with total peace of mind.

Hong Kong International Airport’s High Standards of Health and Safety Measures Accredited
Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) has been accredited under the Airport Health Accreditation (AHA) programme of the Airports Council International (ACI). The accreditation recognises the airport’s high standards of health and safety in its operations. HKIA is among the first few Asia-Pacific airports to receive the accolade. Since the start of the pandemic, HKIA has been implementing a series of enhanced health measures and introducing the latest disinfection technologies, such as disinfection channels, antimicrobial coating and autonomous cleaning robots.

Cleaning and disinfection efforts on airport facilities and passenger amenities have also been ramped up. Over 400 hand sanitiser stations have been installed throughout the passenger terminals, while all passengers are required to undergo temperature screening. “We have been working with the airport community and the Government in prioritising public health in the airport’s daily operations. We will continue to strengthen our works and conduct ongoing self-assessment according to the evolving situation of the pandemic, with a view to maintaining the safe and healthy environment and building passengers’ confidence in travelling at HKIA,” Airport Authority Executive Director, Airport Operations Vivian Cheung said.

Launched in July 2020, the AHA programme supports global airports that have rolled out new health measures against global standards to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. The measures are evaluated on criteria such as cleaning and disinfection, physical distancing, staff protection, physical layout, passenger communications and facilities.
