This has been a tumultuous and challenging year for communities around the world. In recognition of its exceptional commitment to hygiene and COVID-19 prevention, AWE was appointed as one of Hong Kong’s specimen collection centres in March 2020, and later was adapted as a temporary quarantine facility for elderly residents of residential care homes. Building on that experience, AWE became a temporary community treatment facility from 1 August 2020. As a caring company that has always believed in supporting our local community, AWE was honoured that it could be of service at such a critical time. This project was a unique experience for AWE, not only because of the nature of the facility, but also because we served as the project manager. In collaboration with the respective authorities, contractors and concerned parties, we played a pivotal role in designing the layout of the facility, material sourcing, and production set-up, all of which was completed in an extremely short lead time. After swiftly and smoothly completing this first-of-its-kind facility, the team’s project management capabilities faced an even greater challenge: operating the facility and keeping all residents safe and comfortable around the clock. Thanks to the team’s resourcefulness and innovative thinking, AWE successfully achieved yet more firsts such as the creation of mobile handwashing stations and shower cubicles. As always, AWE remained committed to the user experience, which is why the whole team went the extra mile to create a comfortable environment for residents. These efforts included a varied menu of dining, high-speed WiFi, individual living spaces with electric sockets and storage, a relaxing day-night lighting cycle, and much more. This unique conversion is yet further proof that AWE and its team of talented staff can meet the needs of even the most demanding events. Through flexibility, versatility, teamwork and a caring spirit, we can rise to any challenge!
AWE has always adhered to the highest standards of hygiene and venue maintenance. Now, we have also introduced a series of sophisticated new measures for individuals, air purification, and facilitiy cleansing: CLeanTech is the world’s first three-in-one disinfection installation sanitising visitors’ outfits and carry-on items in just around 12 seconds; BioEm Air known for its botanical air sanitising and purifying technology is for application in crowded environments; and Aegis Intelligence features a patented photocatalysis formula that sets an exceptional new standard for facility hygiene, especially the frequently touched areas. AsiaWorld-Expo stays one step ahead to safeguard the health of each user by 3-dimensional approach targeting “individuals”, “environment” and “facilities” to meet different preventive needs. What’s more, we have also developed new protocols for the transitional periods between different events. An Intelligent Sterilisation Robot (ISR) is now deployed at AWE to ensure comprehensive disinfection. This cutting-edge robot is equipped with multiple disinfection modes, including an ultraviolet light steriliser, 360-degree disinfectant spray-heads and air filtration (HEPA), which can sterilise up to 99.99% of all bacteria. Its 360-degree autonomous navigation technology helps to reach blind spots and ensure complete coverage. The ISR is used widely to patrol and sterilise the halls at AWE, especially during move-in and move-out periods, ensuring that the air and all surfaces are fully sanitised. To further support the exhibition and convention industry, the HKSAR Government now offers all organisers of exhibitions, and international conventions (convention with over 400 participants and at least 50% of whom must come from outside Hong Kong) a 100% venue rental subsidy with funding worth more than HK$1 billion (US$131 million) for events to be held at AWE in the coming year (from now till 31 December 2021) . Organisers with postponed events can benefit from this new subsidy by confirming their revised schedule within the promotional period, while organisers of new events can use it to plan inaugural shows at AWE. To further support the MICE industry, AsiaWorld-Expo would offer extra incentive or sponsorship for new shows.
Here at AWE, we’re getting ready for the bounce back of the global MICE industry and hope to start a new chapter for all MICE practitioners. To bring visitors an upgraded experience, a newly decorated Chinese fine dining restaurant, NUVA, has been introduced, and a modern Western restaurant, Arena Kitchen, was just unveiled in October. In addition to enhancing our catering outlets, a number of other projects are also in progress. We are investing in new technologies and comprehensive facility upgrades to make sure you can enjoy an even finer experience at AWE, always with total peace of mind.
