AWE is home to Hong Kong’s largest banquet venue, which can host more than 360 banquet tables. In recognition of its impeccable food quality standards and strict adherence to food safety controls, AWE is the first organisation in Hong Kong to receive the FHS 001:2013 Food Hygiene Standard Certification issued by the Food Safety and Technology Research Centre of Hong Kong Polytechnic University. This three-day biennial congress is expected to attract more than 10,000 insurance and financial practitioners from across the Asia-Pacific region and around the world, who will gather to network, share industry knowledge and explore the industry’s many new opportunities and challenges. The Central Government formulated "The Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area” to accelerate the development of science and technology in the region, including the promotion of a "Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Macau" innovation and technology corridor, which will form a solid foundation for the long-term innovation and prosperity of the local science and technology industry. The Hong Kong Blockchain Week held Hong Kong’s largest-ever blockchain event at AWE from 5 to 7 March, bringing together the global blockchain community to study the latest developments in emerging, real-life applications of blockchain technology. In recognition of Hong Kong’s ongoing transformation into a leading international blockchain hub, the Hong Kong Blockchain Week brought together over 120 speakers, and over 4,000 delegates and investors from over 50 countries. The event was also covered by more than 100 journalists.
The IB Global Conference at AWE was the first time that this high-profile event had been held in Hong Kong, offering educators from around the world a unique forum to share experiences and inspire new creativity in the teaching profession. The three-day conference attracted over 1,000 leaders and key decision-makers from more than 800 state and international schools, universities and governments in the Asia-Pacific region and across the world.
AWE is always looking for new ways to bring Hong Kong’s concertgoers exciting new experiences. In March, it took the possibilities to new heights with Hong Kong’s first outdoor concert in the airport area. Commercial Radio's 903 Music Festival was held in AWE’s piazza, with over 10 teams of acclaimed artists and bands such as Mr., RubberBand and Endy Chow performing in a mega six-hour programme of greatest hits. The highlight of the show was Nicholas Tse, who hasn’t held a personal concert in Hong Kong for nearly two decades. He not only performed his hottest songs onstage, he also concluded the show by inviting one hundred musicians to join him, including guitarists, drummers and backup singers forming a spectacular band that truly brought the house down. To complement this mind-blowing music festival experience, AWE offered the 10,000 concertgoers a winning combination of hassle-free transportation, diverse F&B options, and a unique setting that combined indoor comfort with an unbeatable outdoor festival vibe. As a spotlight event in town, the show was widely featured by media across print and digital channels, including Apple Daily, Oriental Daily and all major TV stations.
For the first time ever, Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) hosted the Airports Council International (ACI) Asia-Pacific/ World Annual General Assembly, Conference & Exhibition (WAGA), a flagship assembly for global aviation leaders. Held from 2 to 4 April at AsiaWorld-Expo, the event welcomed more than 800 airport and aviation industry experts and professionals as well as over 60 exhibitors from around the world. “Our vision is to engineer our city's airport to become an Aerotropolis, SKYCITY is one of the key economic locomotives, which will spin off enormous opportunity with the infrastructural developments in the proximity,” remarked Ms. Carrie Lam, Chief Executive of the HKSAR, who was one of the officiating guests at the opening ceremony. “While AsiaWorld-Expo is exploring its next phase of development to meet the growing demand for exhibitions and events.” By hosting this three-day prestigious event, HKIA further showcased Hong Kong’s leading position as one of the world’s busiest airports and an award-winning international aviation hub. Under the same roof at AWE, HKIA also supported The Fourth Aviation Silk Road International Conference held on 2 April. Mr. Paul Chan, Financial Secretary of the HKSAR, spoke at the opening ceremony “Hong Kong aims to keep its edge as a global aviation hub with its three-runway airport expansion project and through the ‘aerotropolis’ initiative linking adjacent cities.” The conference created excellent opportunities for industry leaders and airport members to engage in direct dialogue with major international and Chinese industry players. To support this historic ‘aerotropolis’ initiative through experience sharing and knowledge transfer, some 300 senior representatives from the Government and private sectors of China also shared successful case studies and insights on the latest opportunities and development trends along the Belt and Road route. Speakers included Mr. Huang Qifan, Vice Chairman of the 12th Finance and Economics Committee of the National People’s Congress, Mr. Fred Lam, CEO of Airport Authority Hong Kong, and Mr. John Slosar, Chairman of Cathay Pacific Airways Limited. Through sharing, exchange and collaboration between different airports, these two landmark events offered a valuable opportunity for all airport operators to enhance their operations and services.
