WHAT’S NEW
ASIAWORLD-EXPO STAFF SCORE TRIPLE TRIUMPH AT DISTINGUISHED
SALESPERSON AWARDS
First organised by the Hong Kong Management Association (HKMA) and the Sales and Marketing Executives Club almost half a century ago, The Distinguished Salesperson Awards (DSA) has become a respected benchmark for salesmanship and professionalism.

Besides submitting written papers, all nominees for DSA face a challenging and high-pressure interview session conducted by a panel of judges from various sectors. Along the way, they must convince the judges how well they build client relationships, demonstrate their specialist product and marketing knowledge and close sales within a dauntingly tight timeframe. In 2015, over 230 professional salespersons from 78 leading companies were nominated for an award – many of them from well-known conglomerates with extensive past experience of DSA’s stringent requirements.

This year, AsiaWorld-Expo became the first player in Hong Kong’s Exhibition and Convention industry to join the competition. Equipped with creative and persuasive presentation skills, all three MICE specialists Anita Wong, Yasmin Cheng and Rachel Lo won awards at the 47th DSA awards. In doing so, they underlined how the AsiaWorld-Expo team customise solutions for clients by leveraging pioneering Signature Green menus, thematic refreshment sessions and tailor-made Corporate Event Solutions.
Innovate & Collaborate
Mr. Allen Ha, Chief Executive Officer of AsiaWorld-Expo Management Limited said, “Competing with numerous contestants of diverse fields, many with an illustrious track record of winning experiences, we are very pleased that all three nominees from AsiaWorld-Expo have received the honourable DSA Award in our first attempt, reinforcing our team’s outstanding performance and innovative salesmanship skills. Furthermore, the process of preparation has demonstrated excellent teamwork and cross-team collaboration, which has made all of us very proud indeed.”

“This new award comes on top of our prestigious ‘Best Venue Team’ award in Asia by the CEI Asia Industry Award, which again represents industry-recognition of our team’s innovation in generating new ideas, and collaboration with customers to meet their unique and differing needs,” added Mr. Ha.

AsiaWorld-Expo has built an outstanding reputation for the world-class standard of its facilities and services, which could not be possible without our dedicated and enthusiastic professionals who are focused on innovating the best solutions for visitors. The venue’s recent sixth consecutive win in the coveted CAPITAL Outstanding Enterprise Awards ‘Outstanding Exhibition and Convention Centre’ category once again shows just how highly its team continues to be regarded by their industry peers.
Innovative, award-winning presentations that broaden everyone’s horizons
Environmental-friendly Green menus ensure a more
sustainable future

Anita Wong, Assistant Director of Business Development– MICE Events

A member of the AsiaWorld-Expo business development team since 2012, Anita has a wealth of catering expertise and specialised in corporate events. Her solid grounding in overseeing banquet and convention sales has provided her with invaluable market insights and an excellent understanding of individual clients’ precise needs. To satisfy the public’s growing concern over environmental matters, Anita and the F&B team tailor green solutions such as Ocean-Friendly and CarbonCare menus. Their ultimate aim is to not only ensure that events are more environmentally-friendly, but also that clients are seen to deliver on their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitments.

“Fully accredited by professional bodies such as WWF-Hong Kong, we have come up with green solutions such as our Ocean-Friendly menus which enhance sustainability by using only seafood from recommended sources. Highlighting ingredients from local markets and neighbouring regions, dishes from our CarbonCare menus minimise event organisers’ carbon footprints by using energy-saving methods in their preparation. My team has also worked closely with our Green solution partners to increase recycling so that food scraps, glass bottles, plastics and metals generated from catering events can all quickly find other meaningful uses, and minimize wastage,” said Anita.

Good Hope School 60th Anniversary Celebration Dinner
Adoption of “Ocean-Friendly” menu accredited by WWF- Hong Kong

Taking opportunity to maximise public awareness of WWF-Hong Kong’s 27 June to 5 July Sustainable Seafood Week 2015, AsiaWorld-Expo has extensively promoted Ocean-Friendly menus across its retail outlets. In addition to serving Green cuisines at outlets, we have extended the eco concept to banquet events by joining forces with WWF-Hong Kong and event organisers.

Good Hope School’s 60th Anniversary Celebration Dinner was one of the recent signature events in this campagin. Over 2,000 Good Hope school alumni and guests supported marine conservation through the adoption of Ocean-Friendly menu.
Good Hope School alumni, Fiona Kei shared in her blog the enjoyable experience and praised the nice setting in the scalable venue.
A Green venue in every sense

In addition to pioneering nutritious, delicious Green menus, AsiaWorld-Expo is doing its utmost to enhance energy efficiency and reduce its carbon footprint. To this end, the venue covers its skylights with state-of-the-art solar control film that not only significantly reduces UV rays but also heat and ultimately the energy consumed by air-con units. Water-cooled chillers, thermal storage plants and air handling units are other ways AsiaWorld-Expo insists on strict environmental protocols regarding energy management and carbon emissions. Always eager to ‘go an extra mile or two’ for their clients, the team here will also be happy to assess events’ likely carbon footprints and tailor off-set solutions to make shows carbon neutral. An acknowledged industry pioneer in the area of Green advocacy, AsiaWorld-Expo recently received an invite to showcase its carbon reduction achievements in a TVB program entitled ‘Go Green Generation’ by the Hong Kong Productivity Council, which was broadcasted on 13 June.

Hillsong Concert Pre-show Networking Themed Cocktail

Critically acclaimed Australian Christian band, Hillsong Worship hit the stage at AsiaWorld-Expo’s Arena on their ‘No Other Name’ Asia Tour on 22 April 2015. Our dedicated F&B and event team welcomed the VIP guests to the event by dressing up the cocktail venue with modern yet classy décor whose delicacy reflected the event’s over-riding Christian theme. The pre-show engagement proved popular with guests and helped the organiser to enhance guest experience ahead of the show itself.
Ideal and Flexible Venue for Corporate Events

CarPlus 20th Anniversary Super Car+ Carnival

Determined to promote car culture in Hong Kong, the organiser of this event urgently needed a venue sufficiently large, diverse and well equipped enough to showcase rare car models, drifting performances and an awards presentation ceremony. Ease of accessibility and an unrivalled ability to whip up a carnival vibe were also of paramount importance. With a spacious open area where audiences could see cars in action before examining them at close quarters, plus seasoned F&B and security back-up services, AsiaWorld-Expo remains the first choice for such large, complex events.
THE BEST CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE JUST GOT EVEN BETTER
AsiaWorld-Expo is committed to optimise event organisers and visitors’ experience and elevate satisfaction levels by constantly expanding a dynamic mix of retail outlets. The recent addition of 7-Eleven, KFC and Thai Chiu, as well as the pioneering launch of the self-serving mobile re-charging service are excellent examples of this commitment in action. A collaboration with a leading telecommunications service provider, the new power locker facility to be launched in August this year offers visitors to the venue a fast, convenient way to re-charge any mobile devices whose power levels are running low. Perfectly encapsulating AsiaWorld-Expo’s visionary ‘Dare to Innovate, Care to Collaborate’ mission statement, the value-added service underlines the venue’s aim of consistently meeting visitors’ and their partners’ unique and differing needs with innovation and flexibility. In doing so, it also cements the AsiaWorld-Expo team’s enviable reputation for creating collaborations that always deliver ‘Win-Win’ results for event industry professionals.

CORPORATE SOCIAL
RESPONSIBILITY (CSR)
Nurturing talented youngsters and sustaining community development
As a founding member of Lantau Development Alliance (LaDA), AsiaWorld-Expo has partnered with the Vocational Training Centre (VTC) and Mu Min Network Service Centre (MMNSC), a non-governmental organisation, to organise the ‘Youth-up’ Whole-person Development Program. The initiative’s key remit is to provide Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) graduates and other similarly qualified individuals with professional support that will help them realise both their personal and professional potential.

In addition to a one-year Foundation Diploma (Level 3) - Hospitality introductory course organised by VTC with classes conducted locally in Tung Chung, students are offered weekly attachments to LaDA corporate members for paid on-the-job training. The curriculum’s ultimate aim is to equip students with the skills they will need to build successful careers in the hospitality, tourism, recreation and sports industries or undertake further studies. Students who achieve the Diploma Level 3 qualification and with recommendations from referee will subsequently be hired by a LaDA member organisation.

This ‘Youth Up’ initiative is a key part of AsiaWorld-Expo’s overall CSR aim of providing superior job matching across Lantau and generate greater career development opportunities for youngsters in the community.
